The  course

Our team of professionals in their respective creative media-based career teach the basics in the following:

  • Film making

  • Photography

  • Editing film/photography

  • Creative writing & Storyboarding

There will be a chance for each student to have 'hands on' experience with relative equipment such as:

  • Professional film cameras (basic available for starters)

  • Leading photography cameras (basic available for starters)

  • Sound & lighting

  • Editing tools and software on an editing laptop, capable of bringing your work to life.

The course will take place in a media work space on two mornings of each week, running for 6 weeks. Within each course day we will ensure we also look at:

  • Wellbeing catch-up

  • Sharing time

  • One to One development

  • Outdoor projects

  • The chance to exhibit work collectively

One to one development will give each student a weekly time slot with one of our course facilitators, ensuring everyone has time to air concerns or chat in private about any issues they may be facing. Or to perhaps ask extra questions and learn more!

A certificate is presented at the end of the course upon successful completion in our HAFTA party! We also provide references upon completion of the course. Then the really exciting things begin in our Beyond Horizon program!

Beyond horizon

Students who have completed the course will become part of BEYOND HORIZON - where we continue to support by signposting and offering further training, voluntary positions, work experience and placements within local film & photography organisations.

By the end of the course, we want for our students to have learnt many things about many aspects of media, gained a new insight or found a new gift. All students will have produced a small film, gallery of photos or creative writing/storyboard piece that they can use to showcase.

This years students displayed their film & photography work at the Brighton Fringe Festival 2019 - in the Unframed Lives exhibition.

We were proudly shortlisted for the 2019 'Visual Arts Award'

Several of our students this year went on to further training in film & photography at the Brighton Film School and  some have even gone in to shadow within professional media businesses in Brighton & Hove.

Above all, we want to show that a happy, healthy, sustainable recovery IS possible. With creative outlets, new skills and opportunities and stronger links to the recovery network, we want everyone to flourish in this safe, creative environment.

Building new found friendships, support one another and find creative outlets whilst enjoying our time, RIGHT HERE. Right now. Together.
